Monochrome embroidery, generally made for the Stemstitch with the red embroidery thread on a white bottom to draw patterns or scenes. In machine embroidery, double or triple stitches are also used.
It is a very ancient technique practiced first in Europe then in the USA. In France, this tradition of embroidery is found in Alsace, it is practiced in red called "Rouge du Rhin".
At the base, the redwork embroidery is sewn with red thread, but of course you can use different colors to embellish the pattern. One can also multiply the pattern or mix different patterns to make a patchwork.
